When I was in high school, Mom and Dad passed along some genealogical information to me that came from G.L. Mason - one of our relatives.

G.L.'s documents went back five or six generations, and it inspired me to search further to discover the history of our DeLoaches within the United States.

I'm indebted to G.L. for his efforts, and the inspiration they provided for my research.

The information below represents a great deal of investigation and numerous sources. Only with the continued introduction of genealogical information to the internet was I able to piece together some of the critical gaps in our family tree.

I had been told that the link had been lost in a court house fire that connected our immediate clan, going back four or five generations, with the DeLoaches that first landed in the United States. However, late one night around 1:00 AM, I was chasing the connection using the maiden names of some of the females in our distant past and found, for a lack of better terms, the missing link. As one can imagine, it was all I could do to contain my excitement at that late hour.

Forrest Hutcheson ("Hutch") DeLoach III

FIRST GENERATION 1. Michel DES LOGES was born about 1645 in France or England. He died about 1710 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He was buried about 1710 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Listed as Michaell Deloges in the passenger list sailing from Bristol, England. Came to America as servants to Foreign Plantations. Ref: Bristol and America; a Record of the First Settlers in the Colonies of North America From Records of the City of Bristol, England by R.S. Glover, 1929. In "The Bristol Registers to Servants to Foreign plantations 1654-1689", by Peter Wilson Coldham, page 196, Michaell Deloge is listed as a servant to Charles Taplady in Virginia for four years, beginning 24 Aug 1663. When Michael DesLoges arrived in America, he was an unmarried man of about 19 years of age. He settled in Isle of Wight County, where he became engaged as an apprentice tailor under Charles Taplady. It is conjectured that his parents and/or grandparents owned and operated a tailoring establishment in France or England, and that Michael served an apprenticeship in that establishment before coming to Virginia. As a newcomer to the colony, he received a grant of 50 acres of land, but its location has not been determined. In about 1668, Michael married Jane Griffith, the only child of Rowland Griffith who, if not a native of Wales, was of Welsh descent. On 9 April 1663, Governor Francis Morrison of Virginia granted to Rowland Griffith 765 acres of land situated on Blackwater River in Isle of Wight County. By his will, dated 9 August 1671, Rowland Griffith gave "all of my estate to Jane DesLoges, my only daughter and now wife unto Michael DesLoges, taylor".

Michael and/or Jane might have died shortly before or during 1719. The number of children born to them is not known. There were probably one or more daughters who married, but due to loss of records, cannot now be identified as members of the family. Also, there were probably one or more children who died before reaching maturity. However, records of the time which escaped loss or destruction furnish circumstantial evidence (which has been accepted as proof) that they were the parents of three sons who grew to maturity, married, and left surviving children.

He was married to Jane GRIFFITH (daughter of Rowland GRIFFITH and Mrs._Rowland (GRIFFITH))about 1671 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Jane GRIFFITH was born about 1645 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. She died about 1705 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Michel DES LOGES and Jane GRIFFITH had the following children:

SECOND GENERATION Thomas DELOACH was born about 1680 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He died about 1748 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He was buried about 1748 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He was married to Mary (DELOACH) about 1703 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Mary (DELOACH) was born about 1680 in , Virginia. Thomas DELOACH and Mary (DELOACH) had the following children:

ii. Thomas 2nd DELOACH was born about 1708 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He died about 1778 in Hyde County, North Carolina.

iii. William DELOACH was born about 1710 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He died about 1778. He was buried about 1778.

THIRD GENERATION Samuel DELOACH was born about 1706 in Brunswick County, Virginia. He died on 30 Jan 1764 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. He was married to Mary BOYKIN (daughter of Francis BOYKIN and Millicent WILLIAMS) about 1744 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Mary BOYKIN was born about 1726 in Northampton County, North Carolina. She died about Jan 1773 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Samuel DELOACH and Mary BOYKIN had the following children:
